How to connect to eduroam
Use the eduroam CAT (Configuration Assistant Tool)
Many participating institutions offer the eduroam CAT for easy, secure setup. It automatically configures your device with the correct settings.

- Select your institution from the list
- Download and install the configuration for your device (Windows, macOS, Android, iOS, Linux)
- Log in using your institutional email and password

Manual Configuration
Some institutions use their own setup process. In this case, follow instructions provided by your institution’s IT or network support team. You’ll typically need:
- Your institutional username (usually your email) and password
- eduroam network settings (e.g., SSID: eduroam, security: WPA2-Enterprise, EAP method: PEAP, PAP, Phase 2: MSCHAPv2, TTLS, Anonymous Identity: Leave empty.)

If you are an institution, you need to contact RENU to get onboarded and deploy eduroam at your campus.

Yes — if your institution is already onboarded on the eduroam service, you can use eduroam at home by acquiring a Homelinks eduroam device. Contact RENU to request the device and get set up.
Do I need to log in every time I connect to eduroam?
No. Once your device is configured, it will automatically connect to eduroam wherever it is available.
Can I connect to eduroam on legacy devices or operating systems?
Most modern devices are supported. For older systems, support may be limited. Check cat.eduroam.org or consult your IT support.
Can I use eduroam worldwide?
Yes! eduroam is available in over 100 countries — your login works anywhere eduroam is offered. Visit https://eduroam.org/where/ to see where you can eduroam.
Is eduroam available upcountry?
Yes — through Metro eduroam, RENU has deployed eduroam in student hostels and urban centers, including upcountry towns.
Can I share my credentials for eduroam?
No. Your eduroam credentials are personal and must not be shared. Sharing them may violate your institution’s IT policy.
Can I connect my smart TV to eduroam?
eduroam is primarily designed for laptops and mobile devices. Smart TVs may not support the required secure authentication but some might.
What happens if I am no longer a student, can I still connect to eduroam?
Once you leave your institution and your account is deactivated, you will no longer be able to access eduroam.

Start by contacting your institution’s IT support. If you’re in Uganda and need further help, you can also contact RENU support.
Can I uninstall the geteduroam app after connecting?
You can uninstall the app, but your device may lose configuration. It’s recommended to keep the app installed for easier management and reconfiguration.
