RENU eduroam Deployments

RENU has innovatively extended eduroam beyond campus boundaries through solutions like Metro eduroam, Homelinks, eduroam on the Go, and Managed IdP, ensuring secure, seamless access for users wherever they are.

OnCampus eduroam

Campus eduroam is the traditional deployment of eduroam, installed across a university or institution’s internal network including offices, lecture halls, libraries, labs, and administrative areas.

Purpose: To provide secure and seamless Wi-Fi access on campus to students, staff, and researchers using their institutional login credentials.

Key Benefits:

  • Eliminates the need for local guest Wi-Fi
  • Automatically connects users once configured
  • Reduces IT overhead for network access management

  • Ideal For: Institutions with internal IT teams and existing infrastructure to support eduroam deployment across their premises.

    Metro eduroam

Metro eduroam extends Wi-Fi access beyond institutional campuses into urban environments such as student hostels, innovation hubs, transport stations, or shared academic spaces.

Purpose: To ensure students and researchers remain connected to eduroam even when they are off-campus, especially in densely populated education zones.

    Key Benefits:

  • Reliable connectivity for students living in urban hostels
  • Enhances learning continuity and access to digital resources
  • Managed centrally by RENU for consistency and reliability

  • Ideal For: Urban student accommodation areas, academic conference venues, and towns with multiple eduroam-participating institutions.

    Homelinks eduroam

Homelinks eduroam enables individual users (students, lecturers, or researchers) to access eduroam from their homes using a plug-and-play device configured and provided by RENU.

Purpose: To bring eduroam to users who study or work remotely — especially in areas where the institution has no eduroam deployment or during disruptions like COVID-19.

    Key Benefits:

  • Seamless Wi-Fi access from home using institutional credentials
  • Enhanced remote learning and teleworking experience
  • No need for the institution to manage a complex setup — RENU handles it

  • Ideal For: Remote learners, home-based staff, or field researchers needing a secure, consistent internet connection.

    Managed Identity Provider (IdP)

Managed IdP is a hosted identity management solution that allows institutions without their own authentication infrastructure to still offer eduroam to their users.

Purpose: To enable eduroam access for smaller institutions or those without technical capacity to run RADIUS servers or identity directories.

    Key Benefits:

  • No need for the institution to deploy or maintain authentication infrastructure
  • Fully hosted and supported by RENU
  • Quick onboarding process for institutions

  • Ideal For: Secondary schools, small colleges, and training institutes without an IT department or identity management systems.

    eduroam On The Go

eduroam on the Go is a portable eduroam deployment kit that provides Wi-Fi connectivity in temporary or mobile settings such as academic field sites, workshops, rural training events, and mobile labs.

Purpose: To support short-term academic activities by offering secure, institution-backed internet access in areas without permanent infrastructure.

    Key Benefits:

  • Rapid deployment with minimal setup
  • Supports conferences, fieldwork, pop-up learning centers
  • Users connect with their institutional credentials, just like on campus

  • Ideal For: Research teams in the field, training bootcamps, mobile learning labs, and rural education outreach programs.
